The Tale of the Shepherd Boy
Deep within the mesmerizing rolling meadows, lived a boy named Shepherd. His being was essentially untarnished, simple, and honest. His primary duty was essentially to care for his herd of rams.
Their low murmuring and the rustling of the breezes across the lone tree on the hilltop were his only co-dwellers. Day upon day, watching over his wards imbued in him a sense of calm website satisfaction.
Yet, there were the occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would pine for company. In one such instance out of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy conceived a troublesome scheme.
Tales of wolves preying on sheep had been around for a while in the village. So, the boy chose to used this fear and played a joke on the inhabitants.
One day he dashed into the village screaming “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The frightened villagers ran up the hills to offer assistance but discovered nothing threatening.
The boy laughed at the dilemma on their faces. This trick laughed for a few days more. However, one morning, a real wolf actually come to prey the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy dashed for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could protect only few of his flock. Devastated, he returned to the town only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the results of false alarms.
The story of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the dangers of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is difficult to earn back. It's a story as relevant today as it was anciently.
